Planning a Cabo wedding when you live in the US (things you might not know!)

If you are planning a wedding in Cabo San Lucas but live in the US, we are here with helpful tips in the area! We are Cabo destination wedding specialists and have helped hundreds of couples plan their dream weddings here.

It doesn't matter if you've never been to Cabo or if it's a favorite destination for you; we welcome you with open arms!

Don't forget your passport!

US citizens need a passport to travel to Cabo. Make sure to check the expiration date on your passport and plan accordingly! Many passport offices are still feeling the effects of the COVID-19 shutdown, and delays can occur.

Cabo is the most accessible place in Mexico by air.

With direct flights from most major US cities, Cabo is easy to get to. Located in the peninsula of Baja California Sur, Cabo is a quick 2-3 hour flight from major US hubs like Los Angeles, San Francisco, Denver, and Dallas.

Cabo is a safe place to travel.

The Mexican government has taken many steps to increase security in tourist areas, and Cabo is no exception. Residents of Cabo love American visitors and will go out of their way to make sure they feel welcomed. However, as with any travel, it's always important to be aware of your surroundings and take precautions.

You'll need to exchange your US dollars for Mexican pesos.

The currency in Cabo is the Mexican peso. You'll need to exchange your US dollars for pesos before you arrive. Most resorts, restaurants, and vendors will accept US dollars, but you'll get a better exchange rate if you have pesos. There are plenty of currency exchanges in the airport and around town.

Most people speak English as well as Spanish.

Although Spanish is the official language in Cabo, most people also speak English. You do not have to be proficient in Spanish to come here! Wedding vendors who help with destination weddings are all bilingual, so communication will be easy for you.

You can legally be married in Cabo.

You can legally get married in Cabo as long as you meet the requirements set forth by the Mexican government, a civil ceremony performed in Spanish. You can opt to have a simultaneous translator to English if you wish.

Transportation in Cabo

When you fly into Los Cabos International Airport (SJD), you will most likely be flying into Cabo San Lucas (CSL), the main town in Cabo. From there, you can take a taxi, bus, or rental car to your final destination.

Taxis are a great way to get around and are relatively inexpensive. You can hail a taxi from the street or call one in advance.

The bus system in Cabo is called the RTP, and it's a great way to get around if you're on a budget. You can buy tickets at the station or on the bus. The buses are clean, air-conditioned, and run frequently.

Renting a car is an excellent option if you're planning on doing some exploring. Driving in Cabo is similar to driving in the US, and most rental car companies will have GPS systems available.

Cabo is a great place to get married year-round.

With an average temperature of 78 degrees Fahrenheit, Cabo is a great place to get married anytime. Because it's semi-desert instead of tropical, it rains much less in Cabo than in other areas of Mexico.

We like to say that the season is two parts here:

December-June: Perfection and bliss! The weather is great in these months; we recommend these months if you dream of a beach wedding.

July- early October: Hurricane season. While the weather may be nice in stretches, it's a time we recommend avoiding if possible. If you love the idea of an October wedding, planning for the end of the month is a better bet.

November-January: Lovely days and cooler nights, but nothing more than a light jacket or shawl will be needed. These months are great choices if you love tropical breezes but are not big fans of heat.
